Emerald joins Kudos initiative for managing and tracking author sharing via scholarly collaboration networks

October 10 2017 / By Charlie Rapple

For immediate release, October 11th, 2017 –– Kudos, the award-winning service for maximizing the reach and impact of research publications, has announced that Emerald Publishing is the latest partner to join its shareable PDF program, which helps publishers prevent copyright infringement and reclaim lost usage from sharing of research articles on scholarly collaboration networks (SCNs).

“It’s natural and indeed desirable for authors to want to ensure that a wide audience is aware of their work,” says Tony Roche, Publishing Director at Emerald. “We want to support responsible sharing as a service, within a growing and sustainable research ecosystem. Kudos is helping us support our customers, providing a new way for authors to share, and helping us understand and measure usage via scholarly collaboration networks including ResearchGate and Academia.edu.”

“The rapid growth in ‘off-grid’ sharing of full text is a strategic concern for many publishers, but efforts to prevent or control sharing have been both ineffective and unpopular; our approach is to embrace rather than to penalize sharing, and thereby to leverage highly-used networks as a discovery channel,” adds Charlie Rapple, Sales & Marketing Director and co-founder of Kudos. “Our well-established integrations into author workflows enable our publisher partners to move ahead quickly with a convenient alternative approach for authors, that comprehensively tracks and reports usage to authors, publishers, institutions and funders.”

Participation in the shareable PDF program is limited, with a small number of seats remaining. There is no requirement to be a current Kudos customer to participate. For more information please contact: charlie.a.rapple@growkudos.com.

Kudos has over 100 publisher, institutional, society and corporate customers around the world. Recent analysis of Kudos data indicates that growth in full text downloads on the publisher site is 23% higher when the Kudos toolkit is used.
