Kudos announces a major research project to identify opportunities for new research communication services

October 11 2018 / By Lauren McNeill

For immediate release, October 11th, 2018 –– Kudos, the award-winning service for maximizing the reach and impact of research publications, is launching a major new research project to explore how, why and when researchers communicate about their work (‘upstream’ of traditional publication points); the broader context within which they do this; and anticipated future changes. Findings will assist publishers in identifying new opportunities for mapping their skills and capabilities onto emerging researcher needs.

With over 250,000 users and partnerships with over 100 publishers, institutions, technology providers and societies, Kudos is well-placed to facilitate such research and to help its partners ensure their strategies are shaped by the ‘big picture’ of sector trends as well as any nuances specific to their own customer base. Past research projects facilitated by Kudos include studies of authors’ use of scholarly collaboration networks, researchers’ wider dissemination and reputation activities, and the effect of dissemination efforts on publication usage.

“Researchers are under increased pressure to engage audiences with their work from as early as possible in the research process,” says Charlie Rapple, Sales & Marketing Director and co-founder of Kudos. “Taking a fresh view of their communications goals and challenges will help to identify areas of unmet need that may map well on to skills that already exist in publishing teams.”

Project partners benefit from opportunities to suggest content for the research instruments, and access to results data and analysis including custom findings and recommendations based on specific respondent groups. Potential project partners are invited to register their interest, by the end of October 2018, by contacting charlie.a.rapple@growkudos.com.

About Kudos
Over 250,000 researchers have signed up to use Kudos’ free platform for managing communications around their publications – across multiple publishers and tools. They explain work in plain language and generate trackable links for sharing via email, web and social networks; these enable communications to be directly mapped against views, downloads, altmetrics and citations. Kudos thereby provides researchers, and their publishers and institutions, with a rich understanding of which channels and activities are most effective for broadening reach and impact. Kudos has over 100 publisher, institutional, society and corporate customers around the world. Recent analysis of Kudos data indicates that growth in full text downloads on the publisher site is 23% higher when the Kudos toolkit is used. Kudos was named Best New End User Product at the 2014 Charleston Advisor Readers’ Choice Awards and won the 2015 ALPSP Award for Innovation in Publishing. It has been named in Outsell’s “Ten to Watch” for three consecutive years and was voted one of the Top 3 emerging companies in the global information industry at Outsell's Signature Event in 2017.
