"By partnering with Kudos, publishers can harness the power of AI with minimum effort, while maintaining control and ensuring quality.”

For immediate release – Oxford, UK  – October 17th, 2023 – Kudos, the platform for showcasing research, has announced that it is leveraging Artificial Intelligence to generate plain language summaries and further boost article performance for scholarly publishers and societies. Kudos now offers AI-generation of plain language summaries for research publications. This capability accelerates the pace and scale at which research publications can be explained and disseminated to broader audiences. Kudos AI Summaries are carefully engineered to conform to Kudos’ proven structure, with short titles, alongside explanations of what the research is about, and why it is important – all elements that are associated with increased readership and citations.

Kudos is celebrating 10 years leading the scholarly publishing sector’s adoption of plain language summaries to help broaden reach, engagement and impact of published research. Using AI to generate summaries is a natural extension of Kudos’ existing services for authors and publishers. The company’s platform, processes and integrations provide a well-honed toolkit for publishers and authors to review or edit AI summaries, and its Showcases and readymade audiences deliver the dissemination element that is missing from many AI content offers.

"AI presents a lot of opportunities that publishers and societies need to explore, and quickly,” says David Sommer, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder of Kudos. “By partnering with Kudos, publishers can harness the power of AI with minimum effort, while maintaining control and ensuring quality.”

“Publishers and their authors are competing for reader attention like never before. Our new AI-powered service means that when publishers partner with us, we can quickly build up a powerful suite of research Stories to help capture that attention,” adds Melinda Kenneway, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Kudos.

This new capability builds on other recent developments at Kudos which have included substantial enhancements to the reader experience. Summaries are presented in illustrated ‘Story’ pages that bring together multimedia, such as infographics and videos, and related outputs such as data. Story pages act as a communications channel for the publications, linking back to the version of record. Stories are collated into magazine-style Showcases, both at subject level, but also based on hot topics or high interest research areas. The company continues to offer unique insights into how authors communicate research, which its substantial publisher customer base uses to expand and enhance author services.
