For immediate release: September 23rd, 2014 – Kudos, which helps researchers and institutions maximize the impact and visibility of their publications, today announced a partnership through which the ORCID researcher identifier will be integrated into the Kudos platform to facilitate authors’ ability to identify and claim publications. Kudos will also enable authors to register for an ORCID through the Kudos site.
Kudos provides a platform through which academics can ensure their work is more widely visible, and for measuring the effect of different activities that support discovery; ORCID provides unique and persistent digital identifiers that help ensure authors are recognized for their work once it is discovered. “Our two services work well together,” commented David Sommer, a Director and Co-founder of Kudos. “As more and more emphasis is placed on the performance of individual research outputs, it’s critical that publications are assigned to the correct author – which ORCID enables – and that authors then have help in explaining and sharing those publications with wider audiences, which is where Kudos comes in.”
Laurel Haak, Executive Director of ORCID, added, “The integration of ORCID identifiers by Kudos shows how profile systems can interact with ORCID records to the benefit of authors. Why ask authors to type in their publication information when by associating their ORCID identifier this can be done automatically?”
As well as improving authors’ experience of using Kudos, it is also anticipated that the new partnership may more generally accelerate uptake of ORCID within the research community. “When authors register with Kudos they’re telling us they want to be able to claim all their publications in one go,” continues Sommer. “The easiest way for them to do this is to register for an ORCID first. With some 1,000 researchers currently joining Kudos every week since we launched in May, we’d anticipate seeing ORCID uptake growing quickly.”
