Authors to benefit from complete view of their publication performance

October 21st, 2014 – Kudos, which helps researchers and institutions maximize the impact and visibility of their publications, today announced a partnership with Thomson Reuters through which Kudos author dashboards will be augmented with citation data from Web of Science, the premier web-based platform for scientific search and discovery and the authority in science, social science, and arts and humanities indices.

Kudos provides a platform through which academics can ensure their work is more widely visible, and for measuring the effect of different activities that support discovery; Thomson Reuters provides authoritative citation data relating to publication performance. “We’re excited about this partnership,” said Melinda Kenneway, a Director and Co-founder of Kudos. “Authors are being exposed to an increasingly complex landscape of metrics relating to their research activities. It’s our ambition at Kudos to bring all these metrics together from across the multiple platforms that researchers use today to publish and share information about themselves and their work. Authors and their institutions don’t want to look at this data in silos; they want it all together in one place, and they want to know what they can do to help improve the metrics that matter most to them. This is the service that Kudos provides.”

Citations remain a critical measure of the impact of a researcher’s work, and Thomson Reuters is a recognized authority for providing citation data. The Kudos author dashboard already includes a wide variety of peer-interest metrics relating to publications, such as downloads from publisher sites (for participating publishers), altmetric data, and click-throughs from author sharing activities on the Kudos platform. Over time, it is envisaged that the aggregation of these and other datasets will help authors, their institutions or publishers understand the most effective activities and channels for explaining and sharing research.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Kudos in our continuing efforts to enable authors, publishers and institutions to get a comprehensive picture of their research activity and performance through our open and neutral stance,” said Juan Ruiz, vice president of strategy and partnerships, IP & Science, Thomson Reuters. “As the world trusted leader in providing citation data and analytics, Thomson Reuters is committed to ensuring the scholarly community can efficiently and effectively measure and view the impact of their research.”
